Writing the perfect profile
Get the most from your chosen dating site
You have chosen to give Online Dating a go, and have chosen the dating site you would like to use.
Now you want to get dating and meet the partner of your dreams - Our aim is to help you do just that. Before you start, look at your profile, would it impress you? does it have a photo? Believe it or not most people only ever look at the profiles with photos.
Would you be happy to invest time and emotion in someone you had no idea of what they looked like? A photo is probably one of the most important parts of your profile. But don't neglect the rest of your profile. Just as you would not go out without a little preparation, a shower, brushing your hair – the same goes for your profile – it needs some thought, and preparation.
What is you profile
- This is the first impression people will get of you, check that your profile actually says who you are.
- Try to be imaginative, and creative – there are over 60,000 people registered with this site – make your profile stand out and encourage the reader to read further.
- But still tell the truth.
- Make it funny, make it romantic, and express yourself.
- Try not to be too specific regarding who you are looking for.
Once you have prepared your Profile, ask a few of your close friends to read it, check that they think it expresses the real you.
Make sure you check for spelling mistakes too.
Next, you should consider which photograph you want to have attached to your profile. Think about which profiles you read first. Will you be more interested in the ones with a photo?
The photo should have as much consideration as your profile, as again it displays to the world who you are.
Things to consider:
- Choose a photo where you look happy
- Make sure that you can actually see you in the photo (does not need to be a full body shot, but equally, one where you are 20’ from the camera will not help either!)
- Whilst a picture of you scantily clad may attract attention, is it the sort of attention you are looking for?
- And if there is more than one person in the photo, make sure you have first asked the other person if they mind, and second you make it clear in your profile which one you are.
Some final do’s and don’ts
Do:-
- Do take action. You can wait and hope that Mr or Mrs Right finds you, but get out here and look yourself too.
- Do send original messages, something which will make your message stand out from a potential crowd.
- Do answer each message you get, even if it’s a simple No Thanks.
- Do check your messages regularly
Don’ts
- Don’t copy & paste messages – ones you are sending or replying to, apart from the fact it is pure laziness, it could be classed as spam, and that can get you kicked out of all good dating sites.
- Don't dismiss people out of hand based on their photo, make sure you read people profiles too.(a photo rarely looks as good as the person face to face)
- Don’t lose heart; there will be someone out there for you – it’s just a matter of you finding each other.
